Sketchbooks,
Concept Creation
I design with an extremely physical approach. I prefer to draw freehand without croquis, in watercolor, graphite or ink. My sketchbooks are just as hands-on:
I cut and sew the paper and boards to bind them myself. When I make a sketchbook it is a symbolic act of creating the canvas that I can design anything on. I aim to give myself complete creative freedom.

Final Concept
I decided on my third concept because it gave a sense of whimsy and adventure that I felt the most connected to. Inspiration came from the colorful scenes, cultures, and natural beauty taken home with me from the places I have traveled.
The sketchbook and clothing are connected through painting. As a painter documenting my trip, the sketchbook becomes its own story of Illustrations. The practice of painting as means of recording travel dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries, tying in the vintage elements used throughout. All natural fibers, vintage buttons, and vintage metal zippers all add to the old-world travel feel.
